I have plenty of stories about the media...from the 16-yr-old female HS journalism major who won a trip to VN, through another youngling who was the daughter of the Governor of Kentucky and was just camping out around the world, to the retired flag officer/turned screenwriter (RADM Dan Gallery) who smuggled himself into the country on a reverse medevac flight...and I had to smuggle him back out.  Ah, the memories...but nothing to do with AFVN.

PS: Another quick memory . . . we weren't kidding around, we actually had a transmitter lined up from another media guy who had one sitting in a warehouse in Taiwan....

Just noticed this group, happy to participate (thank, you Troy) and will submit a small tale. 1969-70 I was director of the Special Projects Division of MACV -- grand title, simple job . . . accreditation and hand-holding for all media types.  One of them was a former DJ, who was a TV correspondent with ABC.  We decided that what Saigon really needed was a Pirate Radio Station (to be called, "Pirate Radio.")  We rounded up some volunteer staffers (all, professional media types) and a few hostesses from PANAM working on the airlift to play "Weather Girl."  Now, we knew we couldn't get away with a "real" pirate station but would need a government permit.  I spoke with the Minister of Information.  He thought it was a wonderful idea and would gladly give us a license.  For a $10,000 contribution . . . personal, not official. Thus ended the dream . . .
