Although the vegetation, etc., indicate the pictures could have been taken in Vietnam, to me, he appears like he is getting ready to go on a hike or into battle in Korea.

Al Gore as a Soldier

in Vietnam

Mike McNally sent me a couple of photos of Al Gore, the future Vice President under President Clinton, showing him in Vietnam.  I had never realized that and doubt if many of us know about his military career.  So here are a few photos and a summary of his tour with the 20th Engineer Bridgade at Bien Hoa.   It was 17 months or so after he enlisted before he was sent to Vietnam in January 1971 and then he was sent back to the states and then he was sent back to the U.S. for discharge that May so he really spent only four months or so in Vietnam.  During his time in Vietnam he was a jounalist for "The Castle Courier," the 20th Engineer Brigade newspaper.

Did Al miss the class where he was told that "a weapon pointed towards your head is never unloaded"?
