Dennis:  I don't have but would like a photo of the compound as it is today taken from the street or even from across the street so as to show more of it and perhaps some of the new Vietnamese buildings.  Can you help with that?  I guess that the next question is: "If the tower behind the Old Post Office is the old AFVN Compound tower, when was it moved? Doubt if we will ever know.

Thank you guys so much for adding to the knowledge base.  I never spent any time in Saigon, I spent all of it at Quang Tri. I was trying while in Saigon last month to get some location pics for all of you.  But I see that has already been done.

I am working on an AFVN Group Conversation from a Facebook conversation and the more I look at Peter's photo, the more "impossible" it begins to appear.  To me, the photo shows that the tower is almost directly behind the Old Post Office and in front of some large high-rise buildings which are less than 200 years away.  However, Google Earth indicates that the AFVN Compound and tower are at least 1,000 yards from the Old Post Office.   I rather doubt if Peter faked the photo so I took a third, closer look using Google Earth.   I can see the main Station and the Generator Buildings at the old AFVN Compound--but no tower!  Also, the tower in Peter's photo is very similar to the AFVN tower behind the Old Post Office.  If this is correct, it is (1) a different tower, or (2) the AFVN tower was moved.  With apologies, either way, Peter, it makes a poor landmark for finding the AFVN Compound.

The AFVN Compound was just to the left, separated by a chain link fence.  The main building was a fairly large, some what tall, one story building.  The roof sloped towards the road.  Peter may have gone through Pathfinder school but he must have been asleep when t hey were teaching "how to give directions (to anything other than a crow")."

Dennis, the old address of AFVN Saigon was #9 Hong Thap Tu.  But today, the same location is #9 Nyuyen Thai Minh Khai.  The street runs southwest to northeast.  Next to the old compound was/is the Vietnam TV.  AFVN was on the southeast side of the steet, right at the corner was/is the Vietnamese TV Station.  Today, the Vietnamese TV Station looks like this:

Standing in the square, cathedral to the left, post office to your front, tower was behind the post office...still is (as of last year).

Had I known the tower still existed, I could have used that as a landmark.  I will ask for someone to try and get me a street photo. Any street names/building names from those of you who were at AFVN Saigon would be helpful too.

The above may be correct or he may have been blowing smoke because a Google Earth view dated March 2015 shows our original studio and generator buildings are still there.  Go to Google Earth at 10 degrees, 47'12.89" by 106 degrees, 47'10.24."

I think that this was AFVN Saigon.  That is what my Vietnamese interpreter told me.
