I guess I get spoiled because our county has the best veterans service officers.  Friday is walk in day.  No appointment needed. Apparently that is not the case everywhere

Filing an Agent Orange claim relative to “peripheral neuropathy” (numbness in hands and feet), I had difficulty in getting the VA to acknowledge receipt of the medical records which had to be sent three times.
As late as April 2018 the VA was still requesting medical records which were sent for the third time, then on May 24th a negative determination was made without any examination other than a hearing test and an interview with a  nurse, I’ve been getting compensation for the hearing since 2014, but denial of this current claim seems very quick.
Today I’m going back to the VFW service officer to discuss this. It took me months to even get an appointment with him. The current VFW representative doesn’t seem as “on the ball” as the previous one. Anybody got any idea of what should I do now?

Steve,

Don’t know what state you are in, so here goes: Gather all your paperwork into a big pile.

Copy it. Make 2 copies.

Never give up the originals.

Every time some body gives you a piece of paper, make two copies and add them to the piles.

Never give up your copies – they will ask if they can ‘keep’ what you bring with you. Answer no, but let them make a copy if they want one.

If you have a way to do it, scan what you have into a pdf file and keep it on a memory stick. Take it with you as well.

Then…

First, ask the VFW Rep for the name & address of your state VFW rep.

Second, go talk to the local DAV or American Legion reps – they might be up to speed.

Does your city/county have a Veteran Service office?

If you are near a VA hospital, they usually have several reps there as well. Tell them what you said – don’t be shy, agencies change reps all the time and it often takes a while for the new guys to get up to speed.

Ask around for the best organization in your area for helping vets. Some posts are real helpful & aggressive and some aren’t.

Go to [Click on] these links. Look up your state. Call.

Getting Treatment and Problems with the VA plus some Information on Agent Orange

Jim White, and Jerry Nelson and Bob Morecook, I'm definitely not burned out on reunions but my old body is (I'll be 75 in 20 days). Peripheral Neuropathy, on the list of diseases linked to Agent Orange, has impacted my mobility. The last reunion I attended (April-May of last year), the 50th anniversary of the commissioning of my OCS class at Benning School for Boys in June 1968, was fun once there (Scottsdale) but it wasn't fun getting there.
My one big regret is that I've never been at an AFVN get-together. I've attended eight OCS reunions, any number of AFNE gatherings, and virtually all my high school reunions. In fact, it was wife Nancy and my high school 50th that brought us together. We were married in 2012. Some of you may be aware that I lost her to lung cancer in March 2017.  She never smoked. Nance was on Facebook, but I'm not.
Roy Burnette and I have had a degree of contact over the past few years.  Along with everyone else, he someone I'd like to see again.
Anyway, I'm interested.

RE: PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
If/when the VA denies a disability claim for peripheral neuropathy, let me know, I've got the contact for an attorney who specializes in VA claims with no payment unless they are successful.
