The discount at Home Depot and Lowes is every day here in Florida  (or at least in my surrounding area).  I’ve been using my retired military ID for a couple of years now after I discovered the discount was available.  As soon as I reach the checkout register I tell the person behind the register that I am requesting a military discount.  That’s all I have to do (other than also showing my military ID).  J

I've used the Lowe's 10% discount for several years at several stores, all in Calif, at different times of the year. They always thank me for my service, a nice touch.  I assume that's part of their training.

In both Nebraska and Missouri, the Lowe's stores I shop at have always given me a 10% discount, just by showing my VA card.

From the Lowe's website:

Lowe's established the 10% Military Discount to support the men and women who are currently serving our country in the Armed Services and to honor Retired Veterans and VA Recipients.  This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family of those who are currently serving, Retired Veterans, or VA Recipients. To qualify for the Everyday 10% Military Discount, you must: Be currently serving in, or retired from, a qualifying branch of the Armed Services, or be the immediate family member of someone who is and have a valid military ID Card. Or: Be a veteran who receives VA benefits and have a valid Veteran Identification Card (VIC). We honor all Veterans on three specific holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. During these three holiday weekends, we extend the discount to all veterans who served honorably and who present a valid Form DD214 or other proof of service. The Lowe’s Military Discount is extended to the Veteran community on these three holidays only.

The Military Discount must be used on personal purchases only and cannot be used for Lowes.com purchases, previous sales, or the purchase of gift cards or services including product installations. It cannot be combined with the Lowe’s Price Guarantee, or promotions such as "Spend and Get," "New Mover," "Project Starter," "Your Choice," or discounts such as Quote Support Program (QSP) quotes.

Yesterday we went to Home Depot to buy a small freezer to replace an old freezer (40 years old and an energy hog) which is now too large for our needs.  Before she would ring up the sale for the new freezer the saleslady requested “proof of service” as she noticed my Vietnam Veteran ball cap.  Luckily I had my VFW lifetime membership card with me.  She took 10% off of the bill and advised me that all Home Depot purchases are subject to a 10% discount at all times for service personnel and veterans.
I was previously unaware of this and thought it worthy of passing along.

I don’t know about True Value and Ace but at Lowe’s, at least here in southern Indiana, they don’t give a Veteran’s discount.  Yes, I knew about the Home Depot discount and use it regularly.

I have been told by Lowes, they give a Veteran's discount on Memorial Day, the Forth of July and Veteran's Day. I gather you need a military or VA photo ID, or a copy of you DD214.

Interesting.  I’ll copy that section of their website and take a print-out of it with me to show the clerk next time I’m there.  Thanks for the info.

Home Depot gladly/easily gives the discount. Lowe’s is a bit different. In Oklahoma, they used to have to call a manager to approve the discount. Seems to be a store to store kind of thing – and the closer you are to a Home Depot the better chance you have of getting the discount. One tactic that works well, push your cart up to the register, ask for a military discount, if they say they don’t have one or only offer it on certain days – walk away from the cart and tell them you’ll do your shopping at Home Depot. You’ll usually get the discount.
