Brian,
As I said, anyone, repeat anyone, who died under any circumstances in Vietnam should be on the Wall.  If they died in the US (of their wounds) or Japan before the Wall was built, they should be on there.  (I'm a little uncertain of that last sentence, so I'm going to send it to someone to fact check.)  If they died of their wounds after the Wall was built, they are added.  If they died after the Wall was built but not of their wounds (AO, suicide, etc.) , that's what the In Memory program is for--to recognize those people.

Hi All
I just thought some of you may have a way to find information on non-combat deaths in Vietnam.  An acquaintance had a childhood friend, Aaron Broil, listed as E4 with the MOS 95B20, Military Police, who never came home.  All he could tell me is he died in a bar, apparently shot by another GI. That tells me he was not on duty at the time.  He is not listed on the Wall.  He is not part of the July 1969 incident where two MPs were killed in a bar in Saigon.
His friends only know that much about him so there is really nothing else I can add.

I've sent your question on to a man who knows everything about the Wall.  We'll see if this is part of "everything."  In the meantime, everyone who died in VN are supposed to be on the Wall, period.  It doesn't matter how they died--a death is a death.  That's why I always say the names on the Wall are of those who died, not those who were killed.

Good point. He could have been on R&R. Apparently the family was not too forthcoming about the circumstances but the friend of his who is asking said he had the impression it was in Vietnam. I messaged him about seeing if there is a family member to request the records. In any event I am told the Wall includes many who were killed in accidents or misadventure, or were sick and sent to Japan or the US, even suicides.

Thank you all for the help and the links! I don’t really have any other info on Aaron Broil as I don’t really know the person asking about him, only that he says he grew up with him and after the Army never heard anything except that he died in Vietnam. I’m passing along any links and info I get here to him via messaging.
For all I know the guy may have gone AWOL when he got orders for VN. I knew someone from Ft. Gordon who got orders after I had already been shipped. He wrote me after to say he ditched his stuff and went underground in San Francisco, got married, and just couldn’t face going to Nam. There are a million stories in the naked city!
